EPIC - experiential, project-based, interdisciplinary curriculum
When I started college in 2017, I met an English professor named Brennan Collins. His dream was to make liberal arts education more engaging and let undergrads experience different fields of work before graduating.
In 2019, we started EPIC (I came up with the acronym). I was the whole communications team - interviewing students, editing spotlight videos, designing the website, running social media. We’ve gained close to a half a million dollars in grant funding, and now a team of 3 students does my job.
Happy Holidays/GSU College of the Arts
I was approached by GSU CoTA’s communications department last year to make an animated holiday card. Every year, a student creates a video to be sent out to all college faculty at the start of winter break.
The video features real students from Visual Arts, the School of Music, and Film, Media, and Theatre experiencing the magic of the holidays in a Terry Gilliam-esque romp.
Pinto Sunshine - Villains
Atlanta’s hottest indie/Latin rock band let me shoot a music video for my favorite song of theirs last year.
We had no budget. What we did have was talent and the lingering memory of the Twilight novels of a decade past. Those golden hour shots are still some of my favorite work.
SELECTED WORKS
Some of the things I’m proud of.
CHOOSE JOY
In collaboration with Wolflike Marketing, Cupcake Vineyards, Kroger, and the Bert Show, I took a look at the explosion of color and celebration that is Atlanta Pride.
Our float and booth’s theme was Barbie, our slogan ‘Choose Joy.’ We spread joy across Atlanta with free samples, a DJ, and lots of bubbles.
KING STREET
My most recent freelance commission comes from one of my co-workers at EPIC. His day job is Professor of Political Science, but on weekends he plays in an 80s cover band.
Our inspiration for his promotional video was CD compilation commercials. To give it that Pure Moods feel, we used a VHS camera to dub the finished spot and ripped it back to digital.
(and yes, that is me narrating.)
One Shot
My master’s degree required a creative thesis, which let me express my comedic sensibility while practicing my narrative filmmaking.
This is a movie about movie making - a group of young friends decide to make the scariest horror film of all time and run into a few obstacles.
I could tell you a million stories about making this film. We had as many problems in real life as we did in the script. But I also got to drive a grip truck, hold a séance, and destroy a bloody statue, so it was a good experience overall.
MoPlay Email Banners
In 2019, I took a summer internship program that was supposed to bring me to a London-based creative branding agency. Instead, I ended up at a Gibraltar-based sports betting website. I made the best of an unexpected situation by animating their email blasts, traveling around Spain, and making a vlog of my adventures.
